Our programs and classrooms utilize multiage grouping (children within 4 years of each other in age), because it more accurately reflects real life and can provide both social and educational benefits. Monthly payment plans and sibling discounts are available.
Academics and Electives
For a balanced educational experience, enroll your child in our 4-Day Academics Program and Friday Electives Program. For more information on these programs, please check out the descriptions below.
4-Day ( Monday -Thursday ) 8:30-3:00
In our 4-day Academics program, the focus is on English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. While each multiage classroom has up to 15 students, most instruction occurs in small groups (5 or fewer children) using age appropriate methods with assignments and activities designed to tie into student interests. We guide students to work both independently and in cooperative groups, and have twice-daily recess breaks built into the schedule, as recommended by multiple researchers and physicians. We use a variety of high-quality curriculum materials to tailor each child’s learning experiences, including the Sonday System, Harcourt-Brace Trophies, SRA, Thinking Maps, JustWrite, Grammar Island, Math-U-See, WriteMath, and GoMath. Children with disabilities may also need specialized learning supports at an additional cost (see below).
Friday Electives Program*
1-Day ( Friday ) 8:30-3:00
In our Electives program, students learn through exploring and experimenting. Younger students (4 to 7) are engaged in thematic inquiry projects, cooking activities, gardening, yoga, art, and music. Older children (8 and up) build their own day by choosing from quarterly (9 weeks) elective options that pique their interests. We have high-interest offerings spanning the arts, sciences, technology, engineering, cooperative games, gardening, and more!.
*Our Friday Electives Program is currently unavailable for the 2020-2021 school year. This option will resume when COVID restrictions are lifted.
Our umbrella program gives the home education community the advantages of private school enrollment (grades K-8) while maintaining the curricular freedom inherent in homeschooling. Students may attend field trips with The Cygnet School and parents have access to our curriculum library. Annual assessments, portfolio reviews, and private curriculum planning sessions may also be scheduled with one of our trained and certified teachers for an additional fee.
$50 per year (annual fee)
